WHO I AM
I’m Pedro du Buf, an illustrator and visual storyteller who believes that every image can carry emotion, meaning, and memory. My multicultural background, growing up between Portugal and Switzerland, has shaped me into a curious and adaptable artist. I find beauty in simplicity, inspiration in stories, and purpose in creating visuals that make people feel something real.
WHY ME?
Because I bring both heart and structure to my art. I don’t just illustrate what’s described, I search for the feeling behind it, the small human detail that makes a story come alive. Clients value my reliability, my openness to feedback, and my ability to capture the tone and spirit of their ideas while delivering polished, professional results.
WHAT I DO ?
I illustrate worlds, characters, and ideas. My work spans children’s books, concept art, and editorial illustration, combining traditional drawing skills with digital craftsmanship. From concept art , character design and page layout to full visual storytelling, I love transforming words into images that connect across age, culture, and imagination.
WHERE ?
I’m based in Zaandam, The Netherlands, but I collaborate with clients and publishers across Europe and beyond. Whether it’s developing a children’s book, creating concept art, or designing illustrations for digital media, I’m comfortable working independently or as part of a creative team, always committed to delivering visuals that inspire and communicate.
HOW I DO IT?
My process starts with empathy and exploration. I dive deep into the story or idea, sketching freely before refining form, color, and emotion. I work with tools like Adobe Creative Suite, blending hand-drawn texture with digital precision. Collaboration is at the heart of what I do. I listen carefully, communicate clearly, and bring a calm, thoughtful energy to each project.
My Creative Philosophy
Illustration, for me, is about storytelling through emotion. I’m fascinated by how light, color, and gesture can shape a mood or memory. Every illustration is an opportunity to create connection between story and viewer, between imagination and reality. My goal is simple: to make art that feels alive, honest, and meaningful.
